Usually my Top 5s are upbeat and I can tell you a little about myself. But for for this weekly Top 5, I will tell you a little about this country which we are all so fortunate to live in. The incident lives lost in 9/11 had no idea what was going to happen to them that morning. The terrorist attack was cruel and horrible, but also strengthened our country. For this top 5, I will write about some of my favorite moments when America took a stand over terrible times.
.) Freedom Fighting: The Revolutionary War(1775-1783)-England wasn't giving the American colony many rights and freedoms, so America took a stand and fought for what is right. Now, weare our own country and is based on freedom because we demanded our rights.
.) Strength: Slavery in the Civil War ( 1861-1865)- It's cruel to be a slave to a master who looks down upon you and treats you badly. Everyone has a right to make decisions for themselves, not tending to another person's needs with no free will. Slaves stepped out to fight for their freedom.
.) Fairness: Women's Rights Movement(1848-1920) For decades, women were seen as only caring, for their husband and children, weak, and not capable to make a change in this world. So, they broke down barriers of what society thought they could do, like voting and having a career. I think it's perfectly fine to want to grow up and be a housewife or choose not to get married, just all Americans should have a say in society.
.) Courage: Civil Rights Movement( 1954- 1968)- Everyone, no matter what color or background, should have equal rights. The African-American men and women stood up for themselves no matter what anyone else told them, which is a virtue I strive to have.
.) Teamwork: World War 2 (1941-1945) - At a world war, the U.S supported the young men going to war, everyday Americans planted victory gardens so they could save the cans to be made into bullets and families rationed food like chocolate and sugar ( I would have never survived).
